Live.Learn.Love.
Summer Emerging Leader’s Program for College Adults
Get Ready for The Rest of Life!
Objective
Equip college adults over the summer to reach the campus of ASU in the context of the local church.
“Live” Areas of Focus
- Pair two or three college adults up with families from our church for life integration (Sunday evenings)
- Have college adults see the city of Jonesboro with God’s eyes as they stay here all summer
- Have college adults participate in the ongoing life of the church so that Fellowship becomes “their” church and Fellowship’s mission becomes “their” mission.
- Enjoy this time of life by living in the same apartment complex as your fellow “Live.Learn.Love.” amigos and letting the good times roll.
“Learn” Areas of Focus
- 70% of our time will be focused on training in the Bible (learn the Old Testament books of history Genesis—Esther; learn the key New Testament books of Mark, Romans, general background to Pauline epistles, Revelation)
- 30% of our training will be in the area of “skills for living” critical to the maturing of college adults (evangelism and our 3Conversion process, biblical manhood/womanhood, money, relationships, personality-based spiritual life)
- Natural learning through the relationships formed with others in the church, particularly their Sunday night partner family
“Love” Areas of Focus
- Love our campus by choosing an evangelistic ministry emphasis this summer: engaging with summer school students, college adults returning home for the summer, athletes, or International students (other evangelistic emphasis outside of campus are also welcomed options)
- Love our city through various summer service projects
- Love our church through various summer service projects
- Love our world through a weeklong mission trip to Xalapa, Mexico connected with two local churches in Xalapa (continuing our relationship and the work already initiated this spring).
Schedule
- 1st Term: June 3–29; Break: June 30–July 5; 2nd Term: July 6–August 6 (Back-to-school Retreat Aug 20–21)
- Training on Monday and Thursday evenings from 8-9:45pm
- The Turn gathering on Wed evening from 8:30-10pm
- Family time with partner family Sunday evenings
- Xalapa Mission Trip June 22–29
Option 1: School + Live.Learn.Love.
Take summer classes during the day and get trained in the evening. We’ve worked the schedule so that it matches perfectly with the first and second term of summer school (first term June 1–July 1; second term July 6–August 5). This leaves plenty of time to study and keep up with classes as well as concentrate on your ministry emphasis, discipleship, service and integration.
In addition, Tuesdays are free to hang out and do ministry by connecting with other summer school students who are not followers of Jesus, International students, and/or student athletes. Likewise weekends are free if you would like to run home one weekend. However, one of our main focuses of the summer is integrating college adults fully into the life of Fellowship, so we’d love to see you here a majority of the time.
Option 2: Work + Live.Learn.Love.
Spend the summer working in Jonesboro and earn the money you need for the next school year. Our evening schedule (Mon, Wed, Thu, Sun) leaves you free to work during the day as much as you want. Work a little or work a lot, just leave time to enjoy the summer as well as concentrate on your ministry emphasis, discipleship, service and integration.
In addition, Tuesdays are free to hang out and do ministry by connecting with other summer school students who are not followers of Jesus, International students, and/or student athletes. Likewise weekends are free if you would like to run home one weekend. However, one of our main focuses of the summer is integrating college adults fully into the life of Fellowship, so we ask that you not plan on working on Sundays (at least morning and evening).
Option 3: Athletics + Live.Learn.Love.
Work out all summer long to be ready to perform your best for ASU. Your coaches will be thrilled to see your commitment, as well as your growth and maturity as an adult over the summer. This also puts you in the perfect environment to concentrate on your ministry emphasis to other athletes, discipleship, service and integration. The summer is a great time to take advantage of the slower pace and “boredom” that can set in for athletes that are required to be here. You have a captive audience and a summer filled with opportunities to reach your friends with the good news of the gospel of Jesus. And weekends are free if you would like to run home one weekend. However, one of our main focuses of the summer is integrating college adults fully into the life of Fellowship, so we’d love to see you here a majority of the time.
Other Options
You may want to mix and match from the options above. Maybe one semester of summer school and one semester of work. Maybe one summer term of just working out followed by working out and adding a classes during the second summer term. We’re flexible as long as you’re available to faithfully participate in our training times and engage in ministry this summer.
Accommodations
The Turn is attempting to work out a special deal with an apartment complex conveniently located near campus. College adults participating in The Turn’s Live.Learn.Love. can live in these apartments without having to sign a 6 month, 9 month, or year lease. Rather, the special lease would run in conjunction to our summer schedule for Live. Learn.Love. This frees you up to move back into the dorms or another apartment complex of your choice once school starts. Once we know the rent, we’ll let you know. You will be responsible for paying rent.
Cost
- $75 for materials and other assessments we’ll have you take throughout the summer (Unique Design, Strengths Finder)
- $1000 for Xalapa Mission Trip§
§ This is a best estimate with the majority of cost going towards airfare. In addition, each college adult who goes on the mission trip to Xalapa must have a Passport. If you do not currently have a valid Passport, the cost if $100.
Xalapa Mission Trip
The weeklong Xalapa mission trip is an optional component that we would like every college adult to prayerfully consider. We recognize the cost may appear high, but we want you to seek the LORD in prayer and then commit to go based on His leading. With school finishing up the first week of May, you will have time to work and save money in both May and June. The trip has limited openings and there will only be 8 open spots. An initial deposit of $150 is required by April 20. Any remaining spots not filled by April 20th will then be opened to our entire church body so that others may join us. As mentioned above, the cost is primarily airfare and a Passport is required to enter Mexico.
Xalapa Veracruz Mexico and Safety
Fellowship recently went on a weeklong mission trip to Xalapa at the end of February. Xalapa is in southern Mexico on the gulf coast and the capital of the Mexican state of Veracruz—miles away from the Texas border. Our experience was wonderful and Xalapa was/is in no way connected to the drug-related violence recently associated with several border towns along the Texas and California borders. While safety cannot ultimately be guaranteed, college adults and parents can rest assured that Xalapa is an extremely safe city. For more on Xalapa, see the following sites:

Sample Partner Letter for Raising Xalapa Support
To help you with finding partners who can provide financial support, we’ve drafted a sample letter that you can use as a great starting point. Prayerfully consider potential partners from your Community Group, other relationships at Fellowship, campus relationships (coaches or closely connected professors), relationships from your home church (if applicable), friends, family, and friends of family. Also, don’t forget that if you have a birthday, you can ask for funds instead of presents.
